Freja, a friend of mine, and myself have since a while back started a weekly tradition. Every Friday at oh-eight-hundred we start with breakfast and cake, discussing the major happenings in the world and the minor ones in our own lives from the past week. Following are hours of our joint hobby, painting. We challenge ourselves to do “something new” outside of our comfort zone, motivate each other with encouragement and positive criticism.
This Friday, my own challenge was to let go of my control-issues. So I forbade myself to use a brush. Canvas plus paint, no brushes. Instead I stood for hours with only a palette knife smearing colors in layer upon layer to an ever changing mess. A technique I have only used once before.
